Howlite was discovered near Windsor, Nova Scotia in 1868 by Henry How (1828–1879), a Canadian chemist, geologist, and mineralogist. It is white with grey veining. Howlite is a lovely stone to use when needing to reduce anxiety, tensions and stress. Howlite can be used to facilitate awareness, encourage emotional expression and assist in the elimination of pain, stress and/or rage. Physically, Howlite can help with the absorption of calcium into the bones and teeth, and can balance the emotions. Howlite also assists in relaxing and releasing muscular tension.
Onyx is a chalcedony, which is a variety of the microcrystalline quartz. It is formed when silica is deposited in lava gas cavities. This results in the unique bands or stripes that Onyx stones usually exhibit. Onyx is often a black stone, but there are also Onyx stones that are brown, pink, red, and green.
A powerful protection stone, Black Onyx absorbs and transforms negative energy, and helps to prevent the drain of personal energy. Black Onyx aids the development of emotional and physical strength and stamina, especially when support is needed during times of stress, confusion or grief. Black Onyx fosters wise decision-making.
